Challenges

The Lack of a Digital Storefront and Why We Advised BigCommerce for their Commerce system

CTTP Inc. lacked an online presence to sell their parts and began exploring eCommerce platforms to establish a digital storefront.

To assist CTTP Inc. in this journey, Folio3 initiated its proven scoping process, conducting detailed discovery sessions to understand the company’s requirements. In follow-up meetings, Folio3 presented a comprehensive comparison of various eCommerce platforms, evaluating their features and out-of-the-box capabilities. This approach enabled CTTP Inc. to make an informed decision, ultimately selecting BigCommerce for its robust B2B Edition features.

The choice of BigCommerce was further reinforced by its SaaS model, which offers several advantages, including automatic updates for security and patches, as well as eliminating the need for server management to handle traffic fluctuations. This strategic decision positioned CTTP Inc. to launch their online presence with a scalable and feature-rich solution tailored to their business needs.

Solution: Building a Feature-Rich B2B eCommerce Platform

BigCommerce Product Page Customizations

To improve the customer experience, CTTP Inc. required customizations on the Product Detail Pages (PDP) beyond the standard fields like name, SKU, price, description, and specifications. In the automotive industry, each part number is often associated with cross-references from various brands. CTTP Inc. aimed to display these cross-reference details prominently on the PDP, providing customers with comprehensive visibility into equivalent part numbers across different brands. This customization ensured access to critical information, empowering customers to make informed purchasing decisions.

Multi-Location Stock Display for Buy Online and Pickup In-Store

With a physical presence at multiple locations and a need to support the "Buy Online, Pickup In-Store" (BOPIS) functionality, CTTP Inc. required real-time stock status visibility on both the Product Listing Pages (PLP) and Product Detail Pages (PDP). While BigCommerce offers multi-location support at the API level, it lacks native support for displaying this functionality on stencil storefronts.

Folio3 implemented customizations to seamlessly display all available store locations in a dropdown menu on the PLP and PDP. This feature allows customers to select their preferred location and view the latest stock availability at that specific store.

Stock updates are synced from the ERP system to BigCommerce at defined intervals, ensuring accurate and up-to-date inventory information across all locations.

This solution provided customers with a transparent shopping experience, empowering them to make informed decisions while supporting the business's multi-location operations.

Customized Shipping Options on Checkout

CTTP Inc. offers a diverse range of products with varying sizes, making it difficult to determine shipping charges at the time of checkout. Their business model requires shipping charges to be finalized after an order is placed, and they do not utilize live shipping rates. Instead, they needed customized shipping options to align with their unique operational requirements.

Folio3 customized the checkout process to display tailored shipping options that meet CTTP Inc.'s business needs. These options include:

  • Delivery with sub-options such as:
    • Prepay Freight and Add to Order
    • Freight Collect
  • Local Delivery
  • Pick-Up
The checkout was improved to ensure these options were clearly presented, allowing customers to select the most suitable shipping method based on their preferences.

Improved Search of Part Numbers

In the automotive industry, particularly for B2B customer personas, the search functionality is crucial for helping customers locate the right products. CTTP Inc. required support for various part number patterns to ensure accurate search results. To address this, we ensured that all search match patterns were imported into the ERP system and seamlessly synced to the eCommerce platform through our integration.

PO Field Customization.

CTTP Inc. leveraged BigCommerce B2B Edition's standard PO Number feature but required improvements to improve usability for their customers. Specifically, they wanted the PO Number submitted during checkout to be displayed in the "PO" column on the "My Orders" listing page of the B2B Edition.

To achieve this, we customized the workflows to fetch the PO Number from BigCommerce API endpoints and submit it to the B2B Edition API endpoints. This streamlined the customer experience by ensuring the PO Numbers were visible on the order listing page without altering the Buyer Portal's user interface. The solution provided a seamless and efficient way for B2B customers to track their purchase orders directly within the platform.

Syncing Group Items from NetSuite to BigCommerce

CTTP Inc. required the syncing of Group Items from NetSuite to BigCommerce, a functionality not supported by default. To address this, we customized Folio3’s built-in integration/connector to enable seamless syncing of Item Groups.

This enhancement ensured that the components of Item Groups were accurately synced to BigCommerce, along with their default pricing and various price levels tailored for different customer groups. The solution provided CTTP Inc. with a robust integration, allowing them to manage and display their Group Items effectively across both platforms.

Syncing Contract-Based Pricing for B2B Customers

CTTP Inc. required a way to reflect contract-based pricing in BigCommerce for specific customers. While standard NetSuite price levels were already being synced as price lists, certain customers had negotiated prices that needed to be applied dynamically.

To solve this, Folio3 developed a customized integration:

  • Standard price levels were synced to BigCommerce as customer-specific price lists.
  • A separate mechanism handled contract-based pricing, ensuring it was stored, retrieved, and applied correctly.
  • Automated updates ensured that pricing changes in NetSuite were reflected in BigCommerce without manual intervention.
This solution ensured that contract-based customers saw accurate pricing while simplifying internal operations for CTTP Inc.

Improving OEM Product Visibility for Specific Customers

CTTP Inc. needed a way to showcase OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) parts while ensuring that only specific customers could view and purchase them.
Rather than developing a custom solution, Folio3 leveraged

BigCommerce’s built-in category structuring:

  • Products visible to all shoppers were placed in general categories.
  • Restricted OEM products were organized into subcategories accessible only to specific customer groups.
This approach provided a seamless experience without requiring additional development while maintaining precise control over product visibility.
