This product packaging maker is a U.S.-based manufacturer of packaging products serving commercial and industrial sectors. Following the acquisition of Pactiv Evergreen, the company faced the challenge of merging two large product portfolios and unifying its digital commerce infrastructure. This required managing product data from two different PIM systems: Salsify for Pactiv Evergreen and Syndigo for the product packaging maker, both needing to sync into a centralized BigCommerce platform.
Adding to this complexity, Pactiv Evergreen had an established Sample Ordering Portal that was critical to global sales operations. BigCommerce had historically served only as a catalog website, but the merger demanded it evolve to support transactional sample ordering workflows. These technical and operational challenges affected this product packaging maker's ability to maintain consistent product data, integrate systems reliably, and meet the needs of its combined sales organization.
Following the acquisition of Pactiv Evergreen, the packaging maker needed to manage product data from two different PIM systems (Syndigo and Salsify) while transforming BigCommerce from a catalog-only platform into an operational e-commerce and sample ordering system.
The merger required integrating product data from two independent systems with different data models into BigCommerce. Syndigo and Salsify used conflicting attribute mapping, taxonomy structures, and field formatting. The connection between Syndigo and BigCommerce was unreliable, causing sync failures, mismatched records, and missing fields that compromised product accuracy.
Zapier was used to pass product updates between PIM systems and BigCommerce, but workflows lacked stable configuration and failed with complex data structures. Sync interruptions caused operational delays and required manual corrections. During the merger, both organizations needed to maintain their PIM systems simultaneously while syncing to BigCommerce, making it difficult to manage concurrent data streams reliably.
BigCommerce had been used as a catalog website only. The merger required extending it to support sample order placement and processing—a new business workflow entirely. Pactiv Evergreen's global sales team had a dedicated Sample Ordering Portal. Recreating this functionality in BigCommerce while matching usability and integrating with catalog and order management systems posed significant design and technical challenges.
The solution needed to route orders to fulfillment centers, track status in real time, integrate with existing fulfillment and logistics partners, and accommodate different fulfillment requirements for products from both legacy organizations.
The previous agency lacked BigCommerce specialization and e-commerce integration expertise, making it difficult to resolve integration issues or design workflows beyond basic catalog functionality. The packaging maker needed a partner with deep BigCommerce expertise, PIM integration experience, and the ability to architect solutions handling dual-source data management at scale.

This product packaging maker already worked with Folio3 through its EcoProducts entity and trusted our technical collaboration.

Our BigCommerce expertise helped address platform-specific issues their previous agency could not resolve.

Folio3 demonstrated prior work connecting platforms through Zapier and managing structured product data flows.

Our team applied AI-assisted development practices to review integration patterns and accelerate troubleshooting during the build.

Folio3 built a dedicated BigCommerce environment designed to support sample ordering for the product packaging maker’s products. The store structure was organized to manage sample items separately from broader product catalogs while maintaining accurate product attributes and category relationships. Customers can now browse available packaging samples and place orders through a structured interface. The configuration also supports controlled product visibility, ensuring the correct sample products appear with accurate information sourced from the PIM.

To connect product data with the storefront, we configured a Zapier integration between Syndigo PIM and BigCommerce. The integration handles the movement of product attributes, product identifiers, and category information from Syndigo into the store. Zapier workflows were carefully structured to process updates without breaking field mappings or product relationships. This setup allowed the store catalog to stay synchronized with PIM data while reducing manual updates from internal teams.

One of the main tasks involved restructuring how product information was organized across both platforms. Our team analyzed attribute definitions, category structures, and field requirements in Syndigo and BigCommerce. We then aligned these data models so that records could move consistently between the systems. This alignment removed import errors, ensured correct product relationships, and established a stable data structure for ongoing updates.

Folio3 migrated the required product information from Syndigo PIM into the BigCommerce environment. The migration included sample product records and supporting data needed for storefront display. During the process, our team validated field mappings and data formatting to prevent import errors. This careful migration ensured the store launched with accurate product information and consistent product relationships across the catalog.

We reviewed and rebuilt the Zapier automation flows responsible for transferring product updates between systems. The revised configuration handled field mapping, update triggers, and product synchronization rules more reliably. These workflows now maintain consistent data movement between Syndigo and BigCommerce while reducing the operational interruptions previously experienced by the product packaging maker.
