Just a friendly reminder that the deadline to upgrade your checkout to Checkout Extensibility is creeping closer – August 13, 2024. After that date, the older checkout.liquid system will sunset for security reasons. We want to make sure you’re prepared for a smooth switch and avoid any hiccups in your business flow.

Why Upgrade Now? Avoid These Potential Bumps:

  • Locked Out of Customization: After August 14th, editing your checkout’s information, shipping, and payment pages using checkout.liquid will no longer be possible. This could limit your ability to personalize the checkout experience for your customers.
  • Payment Restrictions: Adding, removing, or changing your payment providers might become unavailable, potentially impacting your customers’ preferred payment options.
  • Security Concerns: Outdated code can be vulnerable to security risks. To keep your store and customers safe, fraud indicators and recommendations might become unreliable for new orders.
  • Delayed Payouts: Orders processed through the older checkout system might be flagged as higher risk, leading to potentially delayed payouts from Shopify Payments (up to 5 extra days).

Don’t Get Auto-Upgraded (and Lose Data!):

As of January 6, 2025, Shopify may begin automatically upgrading stores still using checkout.liquid. This will result in lost checkout.liquid customizations, with only basic branding being retained.

Upgrade Now and Stay in Control:

Here’s how you can take charge and ensure a smooth transition:

  • Review Your Customizations: Head over to your Shopify admin and navigate to Settings > Checkout. A personalized report will show you all your checkout.liquid customizations and suggest alternative methods using Checkout Extensibility.
  • Find Expert Help: Need a hand with the upgrade? The Shopify Partner Directory connects you with agencies specializing in checkout upgrades.
  • Get Support: Our Help Center is packed with resources and detailed guidance to answer any questions you might have about the upgrade.

Upgrading to Checkout Extensibility is an investment in your online store’s security and future success. Don’t miss out on this important step – upgrade today and keep your checkout experience smooth for your customers.

See you on the upgraded side!
